Henri Mouault’s disappearance baffled both local residents and the French government, prompting a large-scale investigation and search operation. However, his whereabouts remained unknown until a year later, when his body was found in the forest, the cause of death being a poisonous insect bite .
Fortunately, his notes on Angkor Wat miraculously survived alongside his body and were brought back to Europe. This event shocked the entire West, and people flocked to Angkor Wat in an attempt to unravel its mystery.
